"The partnerships that are being established with the universities and other nonprofit agencies will allow us to work beside our colleagues in the community to expand specialized services for our children. For parents whose child was born with multiple healthcare needs, the Center for Patient Safety will provide training to perform daily care that can be so intimidating to caregivers who do not have a clinical background." |
The Mollie Wilmot Children's Center a New Home for Children’s Medical Services There are over 5,000 children in Palm Beach County with special health conditions such as cancer, juvenile diabetes, severe hearing loss, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, kidney disorders, sickle cell disease, asthma, and others. Children’s Medical Services (CMS), a state funded program, has been in the community for more than twenty years to help children in need. Today CMS needs help. Its outpatient facility is too small to handle the growing demand. Increasing demand for clinical care, special design considerations and recent privacy laws have rendered the CMS facility outmoded. The Mollie Wilmot Children’s Center at the Palm Healthcare Pavilion will offer greatly expanded resources and innovative education and training opportunities. In collaboration with leading academic medical institutions, the Wilmot Center will offer a full spectrum of services that will enhance the lives of special needs children and their families. It will provide a welcoming, supportive environment that will offer comfort, knowledge and hope.
